VACATION HOME SPOTLIGHT: 258 - Penn Cove Waterfront Retreat

Enjoy your Whidbey Island getaway in this beautiful beach cottage sitting on the south shore of Penn Cove! This no-bank waterfront property features an amazing view of Mount Baker, and you'll find 165 feet of private beach just a few steps away! The cabin is complete with a fireplace, large deck, remodeled kitchen, and three bedrooms. Two queen beds and one twin bed (with a pull out trundle option) provide guests with a comfortable, easy living beach cabin experience. The bedroom on the bottom floor is accessed via a spiral staircase. An additional twin bed in the living room serves as an extra sleeping space or seating area. This cottage is just two miles away from downtown Coupeville.

This beach cottage was built in 1933 by Ralph Smith. At one time, the Smith’s owned all of Good Beach and had cottages that they rented out. The cottage is one of the contributing structures to Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve and is listed as “Smith Cottage.” It has been designated significant under the National Register because it embodies the theme of recreation and tourism in the Reserve and retains the integrity of location, setting, materials, design and workmanship of the time. Renovations have included the remodeling of the inside, addition of the downstairs with spiral stair access and the addition of the deck with stairs to the bulkhead.

The current owners had a family cabin on Penn Cove growing up and wanted to have a similar experience for their own children. They purchased the property in 2011. One unique feature of this home that the owners especially love is that the cabin has 165 feet of beachfront. They also love how the view of Penn Cove and Mount Baker never gets tiring.
